33rd In Nichi Bunkasai (Japan-India Cultural Function)

Nihongo Kaiwa Kyookai Society (NKKS), in collaboration with Consulate General of Japan in Kolkata, organized the 33rd In – Nichi Bunkasai, a cultural evening with performances portraying Indo-Japan friendship on 24 March 2018 at Dr. Triguna Sen Auditorium, Jadavpur University, Kolkata. A variety of Dance, Drama and Songs were performed in addition to a performance by students of the Japanese Supplementary School of Kolkata.

Mr. Jayanta Kumar Saha, President of NKKS, welcomed everyone and highlighted the activities of NKKS which are aimed at promoting Japan-India friendship. He thanked the Consulate General of Japan in Kolkata for all the cooperation and support extended to their activities.

Mr. Masayuki Taga, Consul General of Japan in Kolkata, commended NKKS for organizing this annual cultural function for the 33rd time, which is a huge feat in itself. He explained the meaning of ‘In Nichi Bunkasai’ to the audience and hoped that everyone will enjoy the performances.

Prof. Ashutosh Ghosh, Former Vice Chancellor, University of Calcutta, graced the occasion as Special Guest. He narrated his living experience in Japan as student and the way he was fascinated by its people, way of life, culture and traditions. He wished success to this function, recollecting several other similar cultural functions he attended in Japan.

This year, the Japanese martial art of ‘Kendo’ was demonstrated which gave the full house audience an opportunity to witness the Japanese way of swordmanship.

Thereafter, a ‘Çosplay’ demonstration was presented by 10 selected anime fans of Kolkata, who dressed up as their favorite Japanese anime characters. The audience was thrilled with their performance and applauded the same in full swing.
