37th In-Nichi Bunkasai

Nihongo Kaiwa Kyookai Society (NKKS) and Consulate General of Japan in Kolkata in collaboration with Paschimbanga Bangla Akademi and Yume, organized the 37th In – Nichi Bunkasai, a cultural evening with performances portraying India-Japan friendship on 3 April 2022 at Rabindra Okakura Bhavan, Salt Lake, Kolkata. It showcased dance, dramas and songs by Japanese language teachers and students, in addition to a tabla and taiko performance by students of eminent percussionist, Pt. Tanmoy Bose.

Mrs. Poonam Nand Dey, President of NKKS, welcomed everyone and highlighted the activities of NKKS, especially during the pandemic situation, which aimed at promoting Japan-India friendship. She thanked the Consulate General of Japan in Kolkata for all the cooperation and support extended to their activities.

Mr. Yamasaki Matsutaro, Acting Consul General of Japan in Kolkata, explained about the importance of the year 2022, which marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and India and highlighted the recent visit of Japanese Prime Minister, Mr. Kishida Fumio, to India.

Mr. Honda Tsuyoshi, President of Japan Club, Kolkata, graced the occasion as Chief Guest. He mentioned how he feels at home in Kolkata and highlighted the similarities between Kolkata and Japan, especially Kyoto, his hometown.
 
The evening saw a skit on the Japanese folk tale, ‘Momotaro’, ‘Haiku’ recitation, musical performances by winner of Japanese language singing contest and Yume, the Japanese music band, another skit ‘Mind your Japanese Language,’ a Japanese drama‘Sagishi no Seijin’ and a fusion dance on Japanese music.
