Beats from Japan
“WAKANA” is a group of four musicians formed in 2007 by Hidenori Yura (Taiko: Drum), Riichi Yamauchi (Taiko & Shamisen), Ayaka Okamoto (Taiko) and Atsumi Yoshimura (Shinobue: Bamboo flute). They have been performing in all over Japan and their original music as well as arranged pieces from local traditional folk songs have received high appreciation.
Consulate General of Japan in Kolkata invited the group to showcase traditional Japanese instrumental music to the music lovers of Kolkata on 2 February 2020 at Tollygunge Club, who hosted the musicians and organized the concert. The evening saw around 300 people who had gathered to listen to the beats from Japan. 4 girl students of eminent percussionist Pt. Tanmoy Bose also played drums in a manner similar to that of the Japanese taiko.
