Visit to Birla High School

The Cultural Section of the Consulate General of Japan in Kolkata visited Birla High School in Kolkata on 12 April 2017 to interact with the students and acquaint them with Japanese culture.
Ms. Manami Kato, Vice Consul from the Consulate General of Japan in Kolkata, made a presentation to around 90 students of grade 9 on some basic facts about Japan including Japanese lifestyle and language. She stressed on the fact that while Japan is adapting some elements of western culture, its own traditional values are being maintained and respected.
A documentary video on Japan regarding topics such as vending machines, capsule hotels in Tokyo and grasslands of Japan was shown. Thereafter, a fun quiz on Japan was conducted and souvenirs were gifted to whoever answered a question.
The students thoroughly enjoyed the session after which many stated that they would definitely visit Japan whenever the opportunity comes their way.
