Consulate General of Japan in Kolkata in collaboration with Paschimbanga Bangla Akademi, Information & Cultural Affairs Department, Government of West Bengal with support of The Japanese Association of Commerce and Industry in Kolkata organized an artistic calligraphy demonstration by Ms. Ougai Kofude on 21 December 2018 at Rabindra Okakura Bhavan, Salt Lake, Kolkata.
Ms. Kofude drew several characters in her own unique artistic way including the word ‘Om’ which impressed the audience and drew great applause. She concluded her demonstration by drawing the character for ‘Heiwa’ which means peace in Japanese and then writing ‘Shanti’ on it which also means peace in Hindi.
Ougai Kofude started learning calligraphy and art from the age of five and rose to being a famous calligrapher of Japan. She now conducts various workshops and demonstrations in Japan and other countries as well.Based on her learnings from classic calligraphy masters and after studying the brush movements of traditional calligraphy, she newly created her works which are highly original and unique. Indeed, each of her works resemble a painting, which heals the heart and pleases the mind.
Ougai Kofude also demonstrated her calligraphy skills at the Official Residence of the Consul General of Japan in Kolkata on 19 December 2018.
