Grant Contract with Greater Lions Seva Nidhi on 29 February 2016

Under the Government of Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects (GGP) scheme, on behalf of the Government of Japan, Consul General of Japan in Kolkata, Mr. Kazumi Endo, signed Grant Contract with Mr. Praveen Jhawar, Chairman of a Charitable Trust, Greater Lions Seva Nidhi for a grant amount of US Dollars 72,222 on 29 February 2016 at the Consulate General of Japan in Kolkata.
The grant will be used by the trust to implement a project titled “The Project for Provision of Medical Equipment for an Eye Hospital in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal.” by which the trust will procure the following 2 (two) modern medical equipment for prevention of sight loss of the grassroots level community of North Bengal and surrounding areas.

Mr. Kazumi Endo in his address stated that the GGP scheme is a part of the Government of Japan’s Official Development Assistance, which offers financial assistance to non-profit organizations to assist their commendable efforts in meeting diverse basic human needs of their community. Greater Lions Seva Nidhi has been entrusted to utilize the grant for the development of their eye hospital.
Mr. Praveen Jhawar expressed deepest gratitude for the Japanese Government and promised to provide more effective services to their community. He said that Siliguri Greater Lions Eye Hospital performs maximum eye surgeries in North Bengal and is a charitable organisation. Currently, more than 85,000 patients from North-Bengal, Sikkim, Bhutan, Nepal and North-East India receive consultations at the hospital and 12,000 eye surgeries are performed annually of which around 60% surgeries are done free of cost.

- Humphrey Field Analyzer (Perimetry Machine) – This equipment is used to diagnose and manage glaucoma and to confirm that glaucoma has affected the visual function, to evaluate the severity and to monitor progression of the disease.
- Constellation Vision System (Retina Surgical Equipment) – This equipment combines advancements in high speed cutting, intraocular pressure control, illumination, laser and other features to allow for more surgeon control during retinal surgeries. Furthermore, this improves the quality of cataract surgeries and efficiency leading to the patients being discharged immediately after surgeries.
