Providing better Livelihood for the people of Kalimpong

Inauguration ceremony of a 3 Storied Vocational Training Centre was held in Hill Social Welfare Society (HSWS) by Mr. Ken Nakamura, Deputy Consul General of the Consulate General of Japan in Kolkata, with Ms. Shova Chhetri, Secretary of HSWS and Dr. Viswanath, District Magistrate, Kalimpong District, Government of West Bengal on July 30 (Tuesday), 2019.
Under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project (GGP) Scheme, HSWS utilized the grant amount of US$ 79,839 to construct a 3 storied Vocational Training Centre.
According to HSWS, the Vocational Training Centre supported by GGP Scheme will be utilized for the better livelihood of almost 360 youth, destitute women and youth emphasizing widows, separated, victims of trafficking, Self Help Group (SHG) members, jobless and poor families and around 1,200 beneficiaries will also be able to utilize the information Centre of the Training Centre.
Mr. Nakamura, Deputy Consul General of the Consulate General of Japan in Kolkata, expressed his deep appreciation and encouragement to HSWS, stating about the works of the Organization in improving the status of urban/rural people in the hills of Darjeeling District covering the 4 blocks. He strongly believes that the construction supported through the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects (GGP) scheme will be utilized by the Organization in providing better livelihood to the people of the Kalimpong.
Ms. Shova Chhetri, Secretary of HSWS, expressed gratitude to the People and the Government of Japan and mentioned that, “We really appreciate to the People and the Government of Japan for the assistance. This achievement is for the hill people especially for the distressed & deserted girls & women, unemployed youths and other backward people. Hill Social Welfare Society implementing agency/ skill Development training provider would be providing 10 nos. of trainings on Beautician, Cutting & Tailoring, Handloom Weaving, noodles making, Mushroom cultivation, SRI, floriculture farming, Mix veg. cultivation, phenyl & Incense stick Making and Vermi- compost.”.
