Japan Talkies

The first festival was organized on 22-23 March 2022 at Kalidas Rangalaya, Patna in collaboration with The Japan Foundation, Cine Society, Patna and Bihar Art Theatre. It was inaugurated by Ms. Tamura Risa, Vice Consul, Consulate General of Japan in Kolkata and Mr. R.N Dash, President, Cine Society, Patna. The movies screened were: Oshin, Recall, Where I Belong, The Scythian Lamb and Tremble All You Want.
On 26-27 March 2022, the festival was organized at Nazrultirtha (screen 2), Kolkata in collaboration with The Japan Foundation, The Japan Curry and HIDCO-Nazrultirtha. The festival in Kolkata was inaugurated by Ms. Tamura Risa, Vice Consul, Consulate General of Japan in Kolkata and Mr. Debashis Sen, Chairman and Managing Director, West Bengal Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation.5 short films: The Menu for Tomorrow, Tsurezure Kankan, Wild Cherry, Her Voiceless Song and Spring Sky and Fall Sky were screened in addition to 3 feature films: Nobody to Watch Over Me, Oshin and The Scythian Lamb.
Japan Talkies was also organized on 30-31 March 2022, at Nandan 3, Kolkata in collaboration with The Japan Foundation, The Japan Curry and Federation of Film Societies of India. Once again, the 5 short films: The Menu for Tomorrow, Tsurezure Kankan, Wild Cherry, Her Voiceless Song and Spring Sky and Fall Sky were screened in addition to 3 feature films: Oshin, Recall and Where I Belong. The people of Kolkata thoroughly enjoyed the movies on the big screen and all shows were houseful. Many commented that this was a very good opportunity for them to further understand Japan’s society, culture, and its people.
