Foreign Minister’s Commendations for FY2020

On December 1, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the recipients of the Foreign Minister’s Commendations for FY 2020. Within the jurisdiction of Consulate General of Japan in Kolkata, Mr. Kunna Dash, President of India Japan Friendship Center, has been confirmed as recipient of the Foreign Minister’s Commendations in recognition of his long years of promotion of friendship, goodwill and mutual understanding between Japan and India.
Summary of Contributions:
Mr. Kunna Dash, as founder president of India Japan Friendship Centre (Japan) since 2002, has made constant contributions for the promotion of mutual understanding between Japan and India in terms of food, culture, education, tourism, commerce, and performing arts through numerous media appearances, lectures and cultural events. Mr. Dash in 2004 established educational institution in his hometown Puri (Odisha) which has been the only school in the state that teaches Japanese language and culture as a regular subject from Nursery to XII standard. The school has been involving Japanese volunteers and interns on research works as well as interactive class room studies too. In 2019, IT & Japanese language training centre was also opened in its premises to train the students as per the demand of the work place especially recruit them for the Japanese companies in India and Japan. Furthermore, Mr. Dash also founded and inaugurated international school in Kyoto, the first-ever Indian based English Medium School in Kansai region, western Japan.
The Foreign Minister's Commendations are awarded to individuals and groups withof outstanding achievements in international fields, to acknowledge their contribution to the promotion of friendship between Japan and other countries. The Commendation also aims to promote the understanding and support of the Japanese public for their activities.
