19th Nihongo Quiz Contest

In collaboration with the Consulate General of Japan in Kolkata and in association of Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture, Golpark the Nihongo Kaiwa Kyookai Society (NKKS) organized the 19th Nihongo Quiz Contest on 24 September 2016 at Shivananda Hall, Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture in Golpark, Kolkata. 57 students of Japanese language from eastern India registered for the event. The participants were divided into the following two categories:
Junior- less than or equal to 300 hours of training received in Japanese language
Senior- more than 300 hours of training received in Japanese language
The Acting Consul General of Japan in Kolkata, Mr. Yasuhiko Tanaka, graced the occasion and addressed the audience. He stated that he was impressed on hearing good pronunciation of Japanese words by the students and their knowledge in Kanji or Chinese characters. He informed the audience that the number of Indian people visiting Japan has been increasing and a basic knowledge of Japanese language is essential to visit or live in Japan.
Mr. Tanaka also handed over the prizes to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd position holders of both the categories in addition to goodies and certificates to all other participants. The CONSUL GENERAL TROPHY was awarded to the first position holders of both the categories.

The successful participants that secured the top three positions in each category are as follows.

The preliminary rounds of both categories had 4 sub-rounds namely Vocabulary, Kanji (Chinese characters), Grammar and General Knowledge and the final round of both categories had an additional Katakana sub-round.
(Mrs.) Ruma Chatterjee Sensei and (Mrs.) Poonam Nand De Sensei were the quiz masters for the Junior and Senior category respectively. The event gave a good opportunity to the participants to brush up their knowledge about Japanese language and the motivation to excel in the future.
