20th Nihongo Quiz

In collaboration with the Consulate General of Japan in Kolkata and Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture, the Nihongo Kaiwa Kyookai Society (NKKS) organized the 20th Nihongo Quiz Contest on 16 September 2016 at Shivananda Hall, Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture in Golpark, Kolkata. 58 students of Japanese language from eastern India participated in the contest. The participants were divided into the following two categories:
Junior- less than 300 hours of training received in Japanese language
Senior- more than or equal to 300 hours of training received in Japanese language
Consul General of Japan in Kolkata, Mr. Masayuki Taga, graced the occasion and addressed the audience in Japanese. He congratulated the participants and commended them and NKKS for taking interest in Japan and its language. He also handed over the prizes to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd position holders of both the categories in addition to goodies and certificates to all other participants. The CONSUL GENERAL TROPHY was awarded to the first position holders of both the categories.
The successful participants that secured the top three positions in each category are as follows.

Mr. Sukhendu Das, a winner of the 10th Nihongo Quiz (2007), by virtue of which he was selected for the inaugural edition of JENESYS program in 2008, was specially invited to the contest. He highlighted how learning Japanese had a highly positive impact on his life, thus motivating the students present. He also shared some memories of his visit to Japan under JENESYS program, by which youths are invited to visit Japan by the Government of Japan to promote mutual as well as global understanding of Japan’s culture, economy and society.
The quiz contest consisted of sub-rounds like Vocabulary, Kanji (Chinese characters), Grammar and General Knowledge. Sensei (Mrs.) Ruma Chatterjee and Sensei (Mrs.) Poonam Nand De were the quiz masters for the Junior and Senior category respectively. The event gave a good opportunity to the participants to brush up their knowledge about Japanese language and the motivation to excel in the future.
