Providing Better Eye Treatment to Under Privileged Children in Odisha

On September 24 (Friday), 2021, Mr. NAKAMURA Ken, Acting Consul General of Japan in Kolkata, along with the representatives of the recipient organization, National Youth Service Action and Social Development Research Institute (NYSASDRI) – Mr. Sarangadhar Samal, Director of NYSASDRI, Dr. Kapil A Bhatia, Medical Director of Kalinga Eye Hospital, Mr. Sunil Kumar Mishra, Hospital Admin and some guests, inaugurated “The Project for Universal Eye Health for Under Privileged Children in Odisha” via online virtual conference.
Under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project (GGP) Scheme, NYSASDRI utilized the grant amount of US$ 92,462 to procure medical equipment : 1 Vision Screener, 1 Handheld Tonometer, 1 Phaco Equipment, 1 Pachymeter, 1 Optical Biometry, 1 Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) Machine and 1 Vehicle for their Eye Hospital.
According to NYSASDRI, advanced medical equipment supported by GGP Scheme will be utilized for the better treatment of almost 1,20,000 children/ year and 6,00,000 children in five years period. Along with them around 1,50,000 population will come under the indirect beneficiaries in each year and 7,50,000 in 5 years period.
Mr. NAKAMURA, Acting Consul General of the Consulate General of Japan in Kolkata expressed his deep appreciation and encouragement to NYSASDRI, stating about the works of the Organization in improving the eyesight of underprivileged children of Odisha. He strongly believes that the Medical Equipment supported through the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects (GGP) scheme will be utilized by the Organization in providing better treatment and livelihood to the children and people of Odisha.
Mr. Sarangadhar Samal, Director of NYSASDRI, expressed gratitude to the People and the Government of Japan and mentioned that, the modern and highly technological medical equipment supported by GGP will provide high quality treatment for all types of ophthalmological disorders to the underprivileged children of Odisha. The supported vehicle will help them to increase the outreach to the children and to make the treatment more convenient to reduce their movement to long distance hospital.
