Odisha School Visit

The Cultural Section of the Consulate General of Japan in Kolkata visited the following university and high school in Odisha so as to interact with the students and acquaint them with Japanese culture.
Utkal University
The Utkal University situated right in the heart of Bhubaneswar city was visited on Tuesday, 22 August 2017. The event titled - A DAY WITH JAPAN, commenced with a brief address from Ms. Manami Kato, Vice Consul (Cultural Affairs) which was followed by a Calligraphy Demonstration & Workshop by Ms. Hiroko Nagahama, Calligraphy teacher from Japan. Around 60 participants including some professors participated enthusiastically. The program was followed by screening of a Japanese movie – “Swing Girls” which received a huge applause.
Delhi Public School, Kalinga
The Delhi Public School, Kalinga situated in Cuttack District was visited on Wednesday, 23 August 2017. Ms. Kato made a presentation to around 60 students of grade 8 and 9 on some basic facts about Japan including Japanese lifestyle and language. They were also shown a DVD containing topics on Japan such as Origami, Robots, Noh Theatre and Koji which they found quite interesting. Those students were also overjoyed to participate in the Calligraphy Demonstration and Workshop, where they got the opportunity to try their hands on the traditional Japanese art and interact with Ms. Nagahama.
