Participation in the Inauguration of Extension of East-West Metro service from Phoolbagan stn. to Sealdah stn.

On July 11, Consul General NAKAGAWA Koichi attended the opening ceremony of Phoolbagan-Sealdah section of the Kolkata Metro's East-West Line. At the beginning of his address, he expressed his sincere gratitude for India's national mourning for former Prime Minister Abe who passed away on July 8. Consul General NAKAGAWA congratulated the Kolkata Metro authority for opening the subway section of the Kolkata East-West Metro Project, for which the Japanese government extended financial assistance through JICA. This year during the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and India, he wished for further deepening of the friendship between our two countries.
During the ceremony, Ms. IRANI, Union Minister for Women & Child Development, earnestly called the participants to stand up and observe a minute of silence to pay homage to former Prime Minister Abe. In her address, Ms. IRANI expressed her gratitude to Consul General Nakagawa for his presence in the ceremony and also for Japan's support towards this project.
We hope that the opening of the Kolkata Metro East-West Line between Phoolbagan stn. and Sealdah stn. will ease traffic congestion in Kolkata, improve urban environment and boost economic vibrancy in the region.
