Grant Contract with Society for Environment and Social Awareness (SESA) and Sundarban Social Development Centre (SSDC)

We take pleasure in informing you that under the Government of Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects (GGP) Scheme, on behalf of the Government of Japan, the Consul General of Japan in Kolkata Mr. Masayuki Taga has signed 2 Grant Contracts, amounting to sum of US$ 191,530 with 2 NGOs, Society for Environment and Social Awareness (SESA) from Jharkhand and Sundarban Social Development Centre (SSDC) from West Bengal, on 18 January, 2019 at the Residence of the Consul General of Japan in Kolkata.
 
    
 
SESA, one of the recipients, has been providing better education, health care facilities and various trainings for entrepreneurship development to the needy people of the society since 1990. The grant US$ 111,362 will be utilized for constructing a vocational training centre for the women who are suffering from poverty and other circumstances.
 
Another recipient, SSDC has contributed its integrated dedication for health, nutrition, water sanitation, child protection and environment protection in Sundarban region since 1989. The grant US$ 80,168 will be utilized for SSDC’s eye hospital with the advanced medical equipment to provide better eye treatment to the people of Sundarban.
 
In his speech Mr. Taga mentioned that “GGP Scheme has been contributing to uplift disadvantaged or unprivileged communities at grass-roots level since 1992 in Eastern India. We expect the recipient organizations, SESA and SSDC, to continue their dedication to the underprivileged and needy people in their region with the grant given today.
 
Dr. Kaushik Mallik (SESA) expressed his sincere appreciation and mentioned, “The sanctioned project will be a boon for the rural masses, particularly women  to explore their entrepreneurship through vocational training leading to employment generation and social empowerment.
 
Mr. Bhakta Purkait (SSDC) expressed his utmost gratitude and said, “We are grateful to the support from the People and the Government of Japan to provide advanced and modern eye care equipment to the numerous underprivileged people of the isolated Sundarban islands.
