Sumie Kaneko Concert

Japanese Koto & Shamisen player and Jazz singer-songwriter Sumie Kaneko presented her music to the people of Kolkata. She is a master in the traditional repertoire of these ancient instruments, and has also pioneered their use in jazz and experimental music.
Sumie Kaneko came to Kolkata for the first time in 2017 for a week, when she not only performed for several groups of audiences but also interacted with artists in Kolkata and aspiring musicians, thus forming a unique bond with the city of Joy.
This time she enthralled the music lovers of Kolkata at the following two concerts.
The concert was held on 24 September 2018 at Satyajit Ray auditorium of ICCR, Kolkata. Sumie Kaneko played traditional as well as modern Japanese numbers. She was then joined on stage by eminent percussionist, Pt. Tanmoy Bose. The duo portrayed a symphonic blend of Japanese and Indian classical music with Sumie surprising the audience with two Bengali songs.
Sumie Kaneko performed solo at Rabindra Okakura Bhavan in Salt Lake, Kolkata on 25 September 2018. She showcased traditional Japanese instrumental music in addition to her own creations which are a harmonious blend of Western and Japanese music. An audience commented, ''It was a mezmerizing performance. Experienced pure bliss through music''.
