Grant Contract with the Leprosy Mission Trust India (Purulia Home & Hospital)

Under the Government of Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects (GGP) Scheme, on behalf of the Government of Japan, Consul General of Japan in Kolkata, Mr. Masayuki Taga, signed a Grant Contract with the Superintendent of the recipient organisation, the Leprosy Mission Trust India (Purulia Leprosy Home & Hospital), Dr. Ujjwal Kumar Hembrom for a grant amount of US$ 66,309 on 17 September 2018 at the Official Residence of the Consul General of Japan in Kolkata.
The grant will be utilized by the organisation to implement a project titled “The Project for Equipping Leprosy Mission Purulia to Provide Better Medical Care to Poor and Needy Community” , where they will be purchasing 4 kinds of advanced medical equipment ; Automated Biochemical Analyzer, A/B Scanner, Refractomer/Keratometer, and Laparoscopy, for the better treatment of 24,000 beneficiaries annually.
In his speech, Mr. Taga stated that “I expect the recipient organization, the Leprosy Mission Trust India (Purulia Leprosy Home & Hospital), to contribute their dedication to people with leprosy in the region through the advanced treatment and care with the grant given today.”
Dr. Famkima Darlong (the Head of Health Programme in the Leprosy Mission Trust India, New Delhi) expressed his sincere appreciation and mentioned that “The equipment funded by the Consulate General of Japan in Kolkata will benefit the patients and will transform their lives. Thanks to these facilities, they can equally avail the best health services in our hospital without discrimination.”
