Inauguration of The Project for Reducing the Magnitude of Avoidable Blindness of Needy People of the Community in South 24 Parganas, West Bengal on 16 March 2016

A Project for “Reducing the Magnitude of Avoidable Blindness of Needy People of the Community in South 24 Parganas, West Bengal” that was implemented by Vivekananda Mission Asrama with the support from the Government and People of Japan under the “Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects (GGP) Scheme” was inaugurated in Bishnupur-I, South 24 Parganas, West Bengal on 16 March 2016.
Mr. Kazumi Endo, Consul General of Japan in Kolkata, inaugurated the said project with Swami Divyanandaji Maharaj, Secretary, Ramkrishna Mission Saradapitha in Belur Math, Howrah, present as the Chief Guest for the occasion.
Under the GGP scheme, a grant of US Dollars 104,795 was provided to Vivekananda Mission Asrama which along with the interest was utilized for the procurement of 15 medical equipment, 1 Mobile Bus, 1 Mobile Van, 1 UPS and 1 Mini Generator for their new eye hospital in Chandi, Bishnupur-I, South 24 Parganas, West Bengal. According to Vivekananda Mission Asram, around 20,000 eye patients from the camps will be benefitted annually.
Mr. Kazumi Endo, Consul General of Japan in Kolkata, expressed his deep appreciation to Vivekananda Mission Asram for making this project a reality and stated that this project demonstrates the Government and People of Japan cares about the wellbeing of local people living in the countryside of the vast land mass of India.
Swami Divyanandaji Maharaj, Secretary, Ramkrishna Mission Saradapitha, expressed gratitude to the representatives of Government of Japan for extending their helping hand by sanctioning grants towards procuring ophthalmic equipment and vehicle under GGP Scheme in order to enable doctors, nurses and paramedical staffs to reach distant rural areas of the country and serve the people suffering from eye problem.
Swami Biswanathananda, General Secretary, Vivekananda Mission Asrama, stated that Vivekananda Mission Asrama’s main activity is providing eye care services to the people of unapproachable areas in Medinipur and South 24 Parganas of West Bengal of which 70% are free of cost. He stated that they feel fortunate and blessed because the Government of Japan and Government of India has kindly approved their project.
