                   On 15 July 2019, Consul-General of Japan in Kolkata, Mr. Masayuki Taga, hosted the Conferment Ceremony for Prof. Pabitra Sarkar who is among the 2019 Spring Imperial Decorations recipients. He received the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays in recognition of his contribution to promoting friendship, goodwill and mutual understanding between Japan and India.

In his speech, Mr. Taga, Consul-General of Japan in Kolkata, expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the continual contribution made by Prof. Pabitra Sarkar in promoting friendship, goodwill and mutual understanding between Japan and India for a long time since his first visit to Japan in 1973 and congratulated Prof. Pabitra Sarkar to be one of the first recipient of Imperial decoration in new era “REIWA”.
 
Prof. Pabitra Sarkar expressed his sincere gratitude to H.M.the Emperor, the people and the Government of Japan for the gracious conferment of the Imperial decoration. He also mentioned in his speech his love for Japan and lessons learned from his experience in Japan which had a good impact on his work and later life.
