Providing Better Eye Care for the People of Sunderban

We take pleasure in informing you that the Medical Equipment Handing Over Ceremony was conducted in Sundarban Social Development Centre (SSDC) by Mr. Ken Nakamura, Deputy Consul General and Acting Consul General of the Consulate General of Japan in Kolkata with Mr. Gopal Pramanik, President of SSDC, Mr. Bhakta Purkait, General Secretary of SSDC, Dr. Subhasish Haldar, Chief Medical Officer of SSDC, Mr. Sayeed Ahmed, the B.D.O of Mandirbazar and Mr. Saurav Dasgupta, the Joint BDO of Mandirbazar on May 29 (Wednesday), 2019.
Under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project (GGP) Scheme, SSDC utilized the grant amount of US$ 80,168 for the procurement of 5 kinds of advanced medical equipment; 1 Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), 1 Operation Microscope, 1 Computerized Tonometer, 1 B-SCAN and 1 OT Table.
According to SSDC, advanced medical equipment supported by GGP Scheme will be utilized for the better treatment of more than 50,000 beneficiaries. It is going to contribute to the better eye treatment and livelihood of the people.
Mr. Nakamura, Acting Consul General of the Consulate General of Japan in Kolkata expressed his deep appreciation and encouragement to SSDC, stating about the hospitals workings and remarkable achievement in providing service to the people of Sundarban. He strongly believes that the equipment’s donated through the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects (GGP) scheme will be utilized by the hospital in providing better treatment to the patients visiting the hospital.
Mr. Pramanik, President of SSDC, expressed gratitude to the People and the Government of Japan and mentioned that, “These contemporary equipment will strengthen the eye care services for the poor and vulnerable people of the Sundarban, till date they have to travel to Kolkata to access the services of these equipment. But now the people of inaccessible Sundarban can get all these services from our Eye Hospital. This will impact positively to numerous people who will get back their vision and will be able to lead normal lives. We believe that this support from the people of Japan is nothing but a “Boon” to the people of Sundarban.”.
