I am ISHIKAWA Yoshihisa, newly arrived Consul General of Japan in Kolkata.

India is a global superpower. It has a big influence on various fields, such as politics, economy, security etc. and is an extremely important partner of Japan. Kolkata, the erstwhile capital, is said to possess an original Indian charm and is also called the "City of Joy" which has preserved the old cultural heritages. I am very excited to live and work in this city where the built environment and social practices are deeply rooted in its history and heritage.

The Consulate General of Japan in Kolkata pledges to protect the lives, safety and assets of the Japanese nationals, and also aims to provide valuable services to Japanese residents and visitors in our areas of jurisdiction, which comprise of the four states - namely West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha and Bihar. It will be our earnest endeavour to become more reliable and approachable to all the Japanese nationals residing in this eastern region.

Moreover, we will try our best to strengthen the economic ties and also to promote cultural, educational and people to people exchanges between India and Japan. Last but not the least, one of our important missions is also to increase the number of Japan-lovers in this subcontinent, by widely disseminating the overall appeal of Japan, encompassing its beauty, culture, and way of life.

I will try my best to build better Japan-India relations in cooperation with Japanese residents, Indians and foreigners.

I am looking forward to working with all of you.

May 2025

ISHIKAWA Yoshihisa
