Kolkata East-West Metro corridor Inauguration Ceremony

On August 22, 2025, the final 2.45 km stretch of the Kolkata East-West Metro corridor between Esplanade and Sealdah was inaugurated by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. Deputy Consul General of the Consulate General of Japan in Kolkata, Mr. ASHIDA, attended the ceremony. With this significant milestone, the entire 16.55 km metro corridor – from Howrah Maidan to Salt Lake Sector V – is now fully operational. The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has provided a total of 64,833-billion-yen ODA loans for the construction of the Kolkata Metro East-West Line.
